WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Williston Mayor Ward Koeser said the city might ask for a special census count of the city's population.

The official 2010 Census puts the city's population at 14,716, an increase of 17.6 percent.

Koeser said he thinks the number is low because the census was done before a number of oil field workers moved to town.

He tells the Williston Herald that the town may have added another 1,000 people. Koeser said an accurate count is important in securing certain federal or state assistance.
