MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Roof repairs are under way at the Metrodome, where a December snowstorm caused the roof to collapse.

KSTP-TV reports for the first time since the roof collapsed, all of the wooden boards have been removed from the turf. A protective tarp eventually will be put over the field while roof repairs are completed.

New roof panels could go in by next week. The target date to get repairs finished is Aug. 1, in time for the Minnesota Vikings' preseason games.

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission hired Birdair Inc. for the job. The Amherst, N.Y.-based contractor designed and installed the roof that covered the Metrodome since its opening in 1982.
