ST PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A University of North Dakota hockey player who suffered frostbite to toes on his right foot Jan. 31 says he was woefully unprepared for the minus-33 degree wind chill temperatures that evening.

Sophomore forward Danny Kristo told the Grand Forks Herald that he was wearing tennis shoes and no socks when he decided to walk to a girl's apartment about seven-tenths of a mile away. He says his right foot got caught in snow, and when he pulled up his foot his shoe was off.

The 20-year-old is a draft pick of the NHL's Montreal Canadians.

He has returned to practice and could play this weekend at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center.
