GRAND FORKS -- The Fighting Sioux men's hockey team has earned the No. 1 seed for the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional in Green Bay, Wis., and will face Rensselaer on Saturday in the regional semifinal.
The game is at 12:30 p.m. Central and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
North Dakota, which has won both the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) regular season and playoff championships, is the No. 2 overall seed for the 16-team tournament field, which was announced Sunday morning on ESPN2 HD.
RPI is the tournament's No. 15 seed.
The other Midwest Regional semifinal will feature No. 7 seed Denver and No. 10 seed Western Michigan.
The top-ranked Sioux defeated Denver 3-2 in double overtime in last night's Red Baron WCHA Final Five championship game to win their second straight Broadmoor Trophy.
UND takes a 30-8-2 overall record into the national tournament and is enjoying a 13-game unbeaten streak (12-0-1) and a nine-game winning streak. Both are season-long streaks for the Sioux.
