BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Carrington beat Central Cass 54-46 Saturday to win the North Dakota girls Class B basketball championship for the first time in school history.
Becca Scherr led the Cardinals (23-3) with 19 points. She helped ice the win down the stretch, scoring six points in the final minute after Taylor Kraft's 3-pointer pulled Central Cass within three points with 45 seconds left.
Scherr hit four straight free throws and scored on a layup to seal the victory. Carrington cashed in on 24 of 32 free throw attempts in the contest.
Emily Thompson added 18 points and nine rebounds and Sierra Rosenau finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Bethany Voss scored 13 points and Hannah Breske 12 to lead the Squirrels (26-2), who had won 12 consecutive games.
Carrington shot 45 percent from the field to Central Cass' 34 percent.
