Winter Storm Warning in Effect 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday

The National Weather Service says a major winter storm will bring heavy snow the region starting sometime Tuesday afternoon. The DOT has issued a statewide travel alert.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

* A LARGE WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT THE AREA STARTING TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

* A BRIEF PERIOD OF SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN IS POSSIBLE EARLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE QUICKLY TRANSITIONING TO HEAVY SNOW AND CONTINUING INTO WEDNESDAY.

* SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IN EXCESS OF A FOOT IS POSSIBLE.

* THE SNOW WILL BE WET AND HEAVY WITH EAST WINDS AT 15 TO 30 MPH.

* STAY TUNED TO LATER FORECASTS FOR UPDATES.
