Girl and Boy Scouts will be collecting food in the Greater Grand Forks area to help those in need.

Starting Thursday, scouts are placing door hangers on homes.

The scouts will return Saturday to pick up non-perishable food and toiletry items.

Their goal is to collect 14,000 pounds of food because of an increased need in the community.

"There is a huge need all around with food. Monthly, our totals at the Salvation Army is 130 to 140 households," said Social Services Director

Linda Beauchamp.

If the scouts should happen to miss your area, you can drop off food items Saturday at the Grand Forks Sanitation Department, the Salvation Army in Grand Forks or the East Grand Forks Food Shelf.
