The Griggs County sheriff says that no aerial searches are planned this week for the body of a Cooperstown murder victim.

Sheriff Robert Hook says that reports of a planned search this week for the body of Kurt Johnson are false. Hook says there won't be any searches this week because of the amount of snow still on the ground in the Cooperstown area.

Johnson went missing after leaving a Cooperstown bar on New Year's Eve. Authorities say his severed head was found in the home of Daniel Wacht, who is being held without bail and has been charged with murder. According to a criminal complaint, someone saw Wacht throw Johnson into the rear cargo area of a van around 9 p.m. New Year's Eve. Johnson's severed head was found with a single gunshot wound in Wacht's basement.

Sheriff Hook says they do plan to do an aerial search, but a date has not been set. An aerial search took place a few weeks ago when the weather warmed up. Hook says searches will take place within Griggs County and leads in Minnesota area also being investigated.
