The Grand Forks Fire Department responded Tuesday night to a house fire at 925 North 3rd Street, just off of Gateway Drive.

The Fire Department says there were four people and multiple pets in the home as the fire broke out, but all were able to escape without injuries.

Battalion chief Mike Sandry says the home, owned by Pam Flaagen, looks to be a total loss. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and ensure it doesn't spread to any surrounding homes or businesses. The business Grand Forks Fire Equipment is just feet away from the home.

Flaagen says it looks like the fire started in the back deck of the home.

The fire started just after 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

The Fire Department says 14 firefighters were on the scene and the fire was very labor-intensive because of the building style of the home, which is more than 100 years old.

Firefighters were still at the home at around 10 p.m. Tuesday night. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Altru Ambulance and the Grand Forks Police Department also responded to the fire.
