Forecasters expect a storm will sweep across the area Sunday with the potential to bring significant moisture, probably starting as rain turning to snow.

A low pressure system will develop over the Central Plains, dragging with it moisture that will affect the Northern Plains.

It’s too early to predict the amount of precipitation, and National Weather Service forecasters must sift through conflicting predictions.

“It’s just a matter of amounts,” Brad Hopkins, a weather service forecaster, said today. “The potential is there based on the storm track."

A weaker system is expected to drop rain and snow in the area Thursday, with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible, containing about a tenth of an inch of moisture.

After Sunday’s storm, temperatures likely will drop for a couple of days, then warm up.
