UND & NDSU Home Overruns Resolved

MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The state Board of Higher Education says it

has resolved a dispute on cost overruns for new presidents' houses

at North Dakota State University and the University of North

Dakota.

Both houses were estimated to cost about $900,000, and were to

be financed with private money. The board refused to allow state

money to be used for the overruns, which amounted to more than

$500,000 at NDSU and more than $261,000 at UND.

The NDSU Development Foundation agreed to cover all but about

$196,000 of the extra costs. The board approved a plan Thursday

that calls for the balance to be paid from NDSU funds that are not

part of tuition or general fund dollars.

The board said the UND costs, which include construction of a

nearby alumni center, will be paid by private donations.

Board faculty adviser Jon Jackson said the board had to put the

issue behind it.
