It's a local effort to help hundreds of children, including those in earthquake-stricken Japan. The goal is to fill more than 270,000 containers of food for people in need and it started Friday night.

In the past few weeks, the Minnesota-based charity 'Feed My Starving Children' has packed more than 600,000 meals, some of which are helping feed children in Japan after the tsunami and earthquake.

The packing sessions will go on throughout the weekend to help feed almost 742 children for a year.

"I just really felt like this was something that could help pull our community together. 18,000 die everyday. It just seems like we could do something about that," Grand Forks event organizer Bruce Storhaug said.

The organization has all the volunteers they need right now, but if you would like to donate you can log onto fmsc.org
