Winter Storm Warning Issued for Northern ND, MN

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a winter storm warning for northern and northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota for heavy snow in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Monday.

NWS says a major early Spring storm will likely impact the region Saturday night through Sunday. A mixture of snow and rain is expected to develop across northern and eastern North Dakota Saturday night, with precipitation mainly confined to the northern and central Red River valley into northern Minnesota on Sunday.

Temperatures will be such that, across northern North Dakota and northern Minnesota, any rain at the start will quickly change over to snow Saturday night and continue into Sunday with possible heavy accumulations north of Highway 2.

Mainly rain showers are expected over southeastern North Dakota into west central Minnesota Saturday night into early Sunday, with rainfall amounts under one half inch expected.

There still remains uncertainity in the precipitation type, amounts, and surface temperatures especially for those living along Highway 2 from Devils Lake to Grand Forks to Bemidji.
