ND Tax-filing Deadline Extended

North Dakota taxpayers will have three extra days to file and pay their state income taxes.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota taxpayers will have three extra days to file and pay their state income taxes.

The Internal Revenue Service announced earlier that it was moving the federal deadline from the traditional April 15 to April 18, and state Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says North Dakota will follow suit.

The federal filing deadline was extended because the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia falls on Friday, April 15. By federal law, the District of Columbia holiday impacts tax deadlines in the same way as federal holidays.

Fong says that since Emancipation Day isn't a holiday in North Dakota, his office will be open and staffed on April 15.
