VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City's mayor said the town expects to have volunteers start placing sandbags Thursday or Friday to protect against flooding from the Sheyenne River.
Mayor Bob Werkhoven said he had hoped to begin placing sandbags sooner, but there wasn't a good turnout over the weekend to fill sandbags.
He told the Valley City Times-Record on Monday that the city had about 85,000 filled sandbags but needs 150,000.
The city also is installing 4-foot-high Hesco sandbags and is raising some earthen
