The winter that has just ended, and the storm days from it, have taken their toll on attendance at some schools in the Lake Region.
Now students are making up for lost time.
Principal Ron Carlson says he can't remember a year when the school has had so many late starts and early dismissals.
Students went a full day to make up six hours and then added an hour to a few days last week.
Carlson says because about 85 percent of students are bused from Fort Totten, it was a safety precaution that needed to be taken.
"A lot of kids are traveling a lot of miles on buses, so we have to maybe be a little more careful than school districts where all their kids are in a town," explains Carlson.
He says all missed hours have been made up and he hopes they don't have to miss any for flood purposes.
