LM Wind Power announced Wednesday that it will open a new division in Grand Forks for research and development.
Through a collaboration with UND, LM Wind Power is opening a space in the REAC Center on campus which will bring more job opportunities to the area.
This is the first research center of its kind in the United States, which will employ around 15 people by the end of the year.
LM Wind Power has been working with UND researchers on the expansion for almost six years.'
Three research groups will use two new lab spaces, three rooms and an office.
One area researchers will be working on is advanced manufacturing engineering.
"It provides opportunities for graduates of UND to stay in our area and get good paying jobs. It also provides UND to increase its capability in this new technology," Klaus Thiessen with the GF region economic development corporation said.
Directors say this new division will help the company work on more complex, longer term projects.
