The community of Climax started its sandbagging efforts Friday morning.
They are preparing for a crest of the Sandhill River of 33 feet.
At that level, one of the town's lift stations is threatened.
Friday morning, volunteers and people in the Community Sentence to Serve program filled thousands of sandbags.
The last time Climax had to sandbag was in 2009. They are keeping their fingers crossed that the water will not get as high. A crest of 33 feet is expected in the early part of next week.
