ARGUSVILLE, N.D. - A woman and her 3-month old infant were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard this morning from a home near here after the woman ran out of formula and diapers for the baby.

A Cass County quick-response team based in Harwood was dispatched at around 10 a.m., and a Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the mother and child out of their rural neighborhood.

"This is the kind of stuff we're seeing," Sheriff Paul Laney said. "It's not the high-intensity of this past weekend. But we have little fires pop up everywhere, and this is where we tell everybody we need to be resilient now and we need to settle in for the long haul."

Some homes in rural Cass County have been isolated by overland floodwaters for nearly a week.

Coast Guard crews and other federal authorities are assisting with wellness checks and rescues as needed during the flood.
