People lined up at the Walsh County Courthouse Tuesday to cast their vote in the special election for sheriff.
The election was necessitated when Walsh County citizens submitted a recall petition against Sheriff Lauren Wild.
The petition drive came together after Wild fired former deputy Ron Nord the day after the general election last November. Nord challenged Wild in the general election.
There are three candidates on the ballot: Wild, Nord and former chief deputy Rob Thomas.
There were 3,000 mail-in votes.
"I haven't worked the last couple campaigns, but compared to the general election, I think the numbers are going to be fairly similar," voting inspected Linda Meberg said.
The polls are open until 7 p.m.
