Current sheriff Lauren Wild has won the Walsh County special election for that post.

Wild had 1,758 votes, former deputy Ron Nord had 1,257 and former chief deputy Bob Thomas had 484, according to the Walsh County auditor.

The special election was necessitated when Walsh County citizens submitted a recall petition against Sheriff Lauren Wild.

Wild won the election in November, and fired deputy Ron Nord the next day. Nord ran against Wild in the election.

Wild accused Nord of spreading lies about him during the campaign. Nord disputed those allegations.

WDAZ will have much more on the special election tomorrow on News at 5,6 and 10. Watch WDAZ.com tomorrow for more as well.
