A Grand Forks woman lost control of her vehicle on a wet and slushy I-29 Friday afternoon, ending up in a water-filled ditch.
The driver, 37-year-old Angela Exner, and her passenger, Solveig Hornung, 78, of Walhalla, ND, were uninjured in the accident.
The Highway Patrol says the 1998 Cadillac was totaled due to water damage.
The Patrol says Exner was driving north on I-29 from Grand Forks to Walhalla. At milepost 146, one mile north of the N. Washington exit, she lost control of her vehicle as she was attempting to pass another car. The Patrol says the car then plunged into a water-filled ditch, becoming almost completely submerged.
Both Exner and Hornung were able to escape without injuries. The vehicle was recovered by Interstate Towing with help from the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department Dive Rescue.
Motorists should use caution when traveling, as the new snow and colder temperatures are making for slick roads.
