Arson Suspected in Crookston House Fire

An arson investigation has been initiated in Crookston, after gas cans were found in the kitchen of a house that had been on fire.

An arson investigation has been initiated in Crookston, after gas cans were found in the kitchen of a house that had been on fire.

On April 19, officers from the Crookston Police Department responded to the house fire on 128 Washington Avenue.

Flames were seen inside the rear of the house and smoke from various locations.

The owner, Tom Mix, said he had heard noises and smelled gas and found the kitchen in flames. He, his wife Kathy and daughter Stacey got out immediately.

According to the press release, the cans were found along with evidence of an "accelerant" being used.

Mix tried to extinguish the flames but head to exit the house. He told police that he had heard noises and smelled gas before the blaze.

This case is currently under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshall.
