Senator Kent Conrad made a stop in Cando, North Dakota today to talk to local leaders about improving some of the roads in the area. Conrad says now is a good time to bid jobs, since prices of materials are low and there are people ready to work.
The Department of Transportation is planning to raise Highway 281 to an elevation of 1460 and to repair Highway 17 East.
City leaders asked a DOT representative if that project could be done sooner if possible, and to fix another part of Highway 281.
James Gibbens: "Dip problems on 281 that we've been working with the North Dakota DOT-where the pipes transcend Highway 281-there's several areas that get awful rough and get bumps in them in the spring."
Conrad and local leaders also asked for that work to be done at the same time as Highway 17, since it would make more sense to do both projects at the same time.
