MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, state and local officials are urging Minnesotans to turn in old, unused prescription drugs.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, authorities will be collecting prescription drugs at 46 different sites in Minnesota as part of a national "Prescription Drug Take-Back Day."
Authorities say unused prescriptions could pose a danger if left in the home. Studies show people who abuse prescription drugs often get them from family, friends or the medicine cabinet.
Last September, the DEA collected over 4,240 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs at 11 sites in the Twin Cities.
Collection sites for this Saturday's event can be found on the DEA's website. Residents can click on the "Got Drugs?" banner and search for locations based on zip code.
