BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The two Republicans who serve with Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk are appealing to U.S. Rep. Rick Berg to run for the U.S. Senate.
Kalk intends to seek the Republican endorsement to run for the Senate himself. He's starting his campaign Wednesday in Fargo.
Mandan Rep. RaeAnn Kelsch has been circulating a letter urging Berg to make the race. Berg said Tuesday he's considering it.
Two of the signers of Kelsch's letter are Public Service Commissioners Tony Clark and Kevin Cramer. Cramer says Berg deserves the first shot at the Republican Senate endorsement.
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad is not seeking re-election.
Most Republican legislators have signed Kelsch's letter, but Fargo Sen. Tony Grindberg did not. Grindberg is considering a Senate race himself.
