The Red River Basin Commission is making stops in our region to look at long-term flooding solutions. Representatives say there are deficiencies in parts of our area and there are ways to fix them.

The Commission is visiting towns like Lisbon and Grafton to go over conclusions about how to prevent future, bigger floods from happening.

The goal is to take feedback from people very familiar with flood fights, and turn them over to the North Dakota and Minnesota legislatures. Some ideas include more financial help, using federal, state and local dollars, as well as beefing up flood protection in rural areas, creating a uniform and true basin-wide protection.

Joining the FEMA Community Rating System can get people lower insurance premiums. As well as urging local governments to stop developments in high risk areas in the Red River Flood way.
