Big Sky Conference Releases Future Football Schedules

UND will play Montana at home three years in a row (2012 through 2014), with the 2013 home game scheduled as a non-conference game.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Big Sky Conference officials released future league football schedules covering the 2012-2015 seasons on Thursday and the result for Fighting Sioux fans is a great slate of teams coming to the Alerus Center.

UND athletics department officials also announced that current football season ticket holders that are planning to renew for the 2011 season along with potential first-time season ticket holders can lock in that same low price for the inaugural season of Big Sky play in 2012. Season ticket packages can currently be purchased for as low as $40 for six home games this fall.

“The Big Sky Conference gives us a solid, eight-game scheduling base from which to build a very attractive schedule and our alumni and fans along with our current and future student-athletes will be the ones to benefit from that,” UND athletics director Brian Faison said. “Clearly, we will be seeing some great teams coming to the Alerus Center in the coming years and right now our fans can secure their season tickets at an exceptional price.”

Perennial Big Sky Conference and national championship contender Montana will travel to Grand Forks three times during the first four years of league play (2012, 2013 and 2014), however the 2013 game will be a non-conference game. Defending FCS national champion Eastern Washington will make its Alerus Center debut in 2013.

Sioux fans will also be guaranteed six home games over the next three seasons with the goal of scheduling the same amount for 2014.

“One of the toughest parts about this transition was the scheduling and now to have eight conference games locked in through 2015 is great for our program and future scheduling,” UND head coach Chris Mussman said. “Our fans can start to recognize some of these teams as we build new conference rivals and renew some old ones. Our fans are going to be treated to some exciting football games right away.”

The 2012 home schedule is highlighted by games against Southland Conference member Central Arkansas and Big Sky foes Cal Poly, Montana, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. The Sioux also play at FBS opponent San Diego State (Sept. 15) that season.

The 2013 home slate features non-league games against FCS schools Valparaiso and South Dakota State along with league games against Montana State, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State and Northern Colorado.

Montana State and Northern Colorado are considered UND’s rivals and will play the Fighting Sioux in each of their first four seasons in the Big Sky with each team hosting the others twice during that span. Robert Morris, a 2010 FCS playoff participant, will travel to Grand Forks in 2014.
