The Spirit Lake Nation has elected a new tribal chair.
Roger Yankton Sr. will succeed chair Myra Pearson, who didn't seek re-election.
Yankton had 539 votes, and challenger Leander McDonald had 394 votes. That's a difference of 145 votes.
Yankton and McDonald had previously received the most votes in the tribal primary. Yankton, 64, has worked for 20 years in housing and development and 14 years in human resources. McDonald, 48, is his nephew. and the academic dean at Cankdeska Cikana Community College.
