BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) — The state of Michigan is offering a $100 bounty to anyone who catches walleye with an electronic transmitter in the fish.

The state released the walleye with transmitters to learn how they migrate into Lake Huron from Saginaw Bay and Lake Erie. The walleye are at least 17 inches long and have an orange tag on the back fin.

Biologist David Fielder tells The Detroit News that anglers can keep the fish. The transmitter must be kept at room temperature until it's returned. The fish also can be released to the water for someone else to catch.

Fielder says the goal is to gather information to better manage the walleye fishery in Lake Huron. He predicts about 15 special walleye will be caught this year. For information call (989) 734-4768.
