Red River High School Principal Kim Slotsve has resigned and accepted a job with Minot Public Schools.
Slotsve accepted the post of curriculum coordinator. The Grand Forks School Board is expected to approve her resignation at its Monday night meeting
Slotsve started as an associate principal and has been principal since 2007.
The Minot job “will allow me to be closer to my family in western North Dakota,” Slotsve wrote in her letter of resignation.
“I’ve been a principal for 17½ years, and there’s a part of me that thought I’d be here until I retired, but the opportunity came up to maybe take in the activities of my niece and nephews who are out in Minot and Williston,” she said in an interview with Grand Forks Herald reporter Lisa Gulya.
Slotsve’s job in Minot will take her from working in a single school to making decisions for an entire district. Red River has 1,140 students; Minot Public Schools has 6,900.
The Minot school board earlier approved her hiring. Slotsve will replace Steve Joyal, who is retiring. According to the Minot Daily News, board members were impressed by Slotsve's experience with professional learning communities and reading programs.
