Dakota Prairie, ND, Sixth Grader in Top 10 for Free Throw Competition

Hunter Sand worked his way through several competitions in North Dakota and one in South Dakota before heading to the National Championships in Springfield, MA.

A Dakota Prairie sixth grader has placed sixth in the nation in the Elks Free Throw Competition.

Hunter Sand worked his way through several competitions in North Dakota and one in South Dakota before heading to the National Championships in Springfield, MA.

Hunter made 19 of 25 free throws, placing sixth.

He says he practiced every day.

"Practice pays off, and hard work. Keep trying," Hunter said.

More than three million kids participate in the Elks Free Throw Contest every year.
