Camp Grafton Brings Millions of Dollars to Devils Lake

The commander of Camp Grafton says, like everyone else in the Lake Region, they too are facing problems with the lake. But it hasn't slowed down business.

One of the biggest issues at the camp is transportation to and from certain areas because the water limits access.

But despite that, the camp brings in more than $21 million a year to the Devils Lake area.

Col. David Rickford says the Regional Training Institute has brought in several new jobs and more students.

Camp Grafton holds several training missions throughout the year, but the full-time employees are what helps the camp to thrive economically.

"We have 250 employees here on the installation that live in the area and that represents about $10 million a year. The facilities and the sustainment of the facilities represents just over $11 million," said Col. Rickford.

He says this year's numbers are consistant with the last two years.
