Arbor Day: Tree Planted For Former Councilman Dick GrasselArbor Day in East Grand Forks became a day of remembrance for a former city council member.
Fourth grade students and members of the East Grand Forks City Council planted a tree at the Red River State Recreation Area to honor former city council president Dick Grassel.
Mayor Lynn Stauss says Grassel, who died recently after a long battle with cancer, would be proud.
"He liked the park a lot. He cared for it a lot and so we are going to plant a tree in his honor here today and hopefully it will grow to be big and strong and hopefully the kids will always remember the day they planted it," said East Grand Forks Mayor Lynn Stauss.
A newly-constructed Dick Grassel playground is also being opened.
