FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A longtime wrestling coach who led North Dakota State University to four national titles has retired.

Bucky Maughan (MAWNE) has been head coach of the Bison for 47 seasons. He guided the team to NCAA Division II championships in 1988, 1998, 2000 and 2001.

Twenty-one of Maughan's wrestlers won national titles.

Maughan's teams won 17 North Central Conference titles, including nine a row. He was inducted into the D-II Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997.

The 70-year-old Maughan finished with a career record of 467-157-13.

The Bison moved up to Division I in 2006. Nineteen wrestlers qualified for the Division I national tournament under Maughan.

NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor says Maughan built a "standard of excellence" for the program and he will be missed in the wrestling room.
