A wellness center being built in south Grand Forks has an official name, after the Grand Forks Park Board approved it at a Thursday meeting.

The estimated $23 million building will now be called Choice Health and Fitness after a unanimous vote.

The new name was chosen because of 11 different partnerships, which include Altru Health System and the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center. The center will operate in partnership with the Y Family Center.

Choice Financial pledged $2.75 million last March to help name the facility. Now more than 300 area businesses and people have donated money for the project, which started out small more than four years ago.

Now with a new name, it's on to the next phase: consideration of bids and then construction. It's an exciting time for all who have been involved since the beginning.

Board members say it'll bring more jobs and keep more families healthy in the Grand Forks area.
