ISABELLA, Minn. (AP) — A Hibbing helicopter crew has rescued six men who were lost in a swampy forest in northeastern Minnesota at night.
The men waved their cellphones in the air. The Life Link III helicopter crew was wearing night-vision goggles and could see the cellphone lights glowing in the dark.
The Duluth News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/m7OY6d) the helicopter crew flew over the hikers to get GPS coordinates, radioed the location to rescuers on the ground and helped guide them.
The men were members of a tree-planting crew who got lost on Wednesday. Lake County Sheriff Carey Johnson says the men were rescued at 1:44 a.m. Thursday, and — other than being cold — were in good condition.
