NORTHWOOD, N.D. (AP) - The eastern North Dakota community of
Northwood is finishing the first phase of a $3.6 million
infrastructure project as it continues recovering from an August
2007 tornado.
City Administrator Marcy Douglas says the project will replace a
portion of the municipal water and sanitary sewer systems, and pave
a gravel road that leads to the new Northwood School. Much of the
cost is being paid for with federal stimulus money.
Private developers also continue to invest in the community of
950 people southwest of Grand Forks. A new 10-unit motel, along
with a laundry and campground complex, is being built on the spot
where a mobile home park was destroyed.
The community continues to look for investors to help redevelop
portions of downtown Northwood that were destroyed. The state's
congressional delegation says Northwood is getting a $665,000
federal grant to help downtown rebuilding.
