DL City Commission Sends Letter to State Denying Control Structure on Tolna Coulee

The Devils Lake city commission voted Monday to send a letter to the state of North Dakota denying them permission to build a control structure on the Tolna Coulee at this time.

The Devils Lake city commission voted Monday to send a letter to the state of North Dakota denying them permission to build a control structure on the Tolna Coulee at this time.

The Ramsey County commission also held a special meeting Monday, and the two boards have decided to work together.

Neither board is convinced that the proposed structure will benefit those in the Lake Region.

Earlier, the city had sent a letter to Governor Dalrymple hoping to come up with a compromise to take water off of the lake this summer, but their request was denied, so now they're working on an alternative solution.

"Let's deny it and let's move forward with it, but we've got to have a couple more things in place before we can allow this," Devils Lake city commissioner Tim Heisler said.

The commission is set to meet again with several other counties and Lake Region officials on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Devils Lake.
