Still No Details Released on Spirit Lake Murders; Cousin: DuBois Was Good Father

People on the Spirit Lake Reservation are talking about the apparent murder of two children in St. Michael, but no one in any official capacity is releasing information.

A cousin of the family who spoke to WDAZ Tuesday declined an on camera interview, but said many of the rumors weren't true, but didn't care to elaborate on which ones.

Another relative said he's not sure Travis DuBois, the father of the two children found dead, could have harmed them, saying he was a good father and worked hard for his kids.

U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon said Tuesday that no federal charges have been filed against DuBois and again said the investigation is ongoing, so no further information will be released at this time.

The children, ages nine and six were allegedly killed sometime between Wednesday and Saturday last week and their bodies discovered by their mother, Mena Shaw.

Several from the small community say they are very shook up over the incident and would like to know who could have murdered the children.

Shaw found the bodies of the girl and a boy under a mattress and it appeared they had been dead for several days, a relative told the Grand Forks Herald.

The children had apparently been killed with a knife or other sharp, bladed weapon, the relative continued.

DuBois was convicted on a simple assault charge in 2007. He also was found guilty of DUI in 2000.

More information is expected to be released.
