ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - In the name of trade, Minnesota Gov. Tim
Pawlenty heads south later this week - way south.
Pawlenty leaves Saturday on his seventh major trade trip in his
seven years as governor. Brazil and Chile are on the itinerary.
Thirty-three people in the 44-member delegation are business
executives. The rest are academic leaders and state officials, such
as Pawlenty and his wife, Mary.
Neither country ranks particularly high on the Minnesota list of
trading partners. Brazil was 15th in 2008 and Chile was 30th. But
officials point to the large upswing in manufactured exports over
the last decade as signs of a ripe market.
Pawlenty has previously led delegations to delegations to
Canada, China, the Czech Republic, India, Israel and Poland.
