A man held in jail following the deaths of his two children has plead guilty to other charges apparently unrelated to the deaths.
Travis DuBois, 41, of St. Michael, ND, has plead guilty to public intoxication and reckless endangerment, according to Joe Vetsch, prosecutor for the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe.
He was given the maximum sentence for each charge and will spend two years and 60 days in federal prison.
DuBois was arrested after the bodies of two of his children were found in his home on Saturday.
The children, ages nine and seven were allegedly killed sometime between Wednesday and Saturday last week and their bodies discovered by their mother, Mena Shaw.
Shaw found the bodies of the girl and a boy under a mattress and it appeared they had been dead for several days, a relative who wanted to remain anonymous said.
The children had apparently been killed with a knife or other sharp, bladed weapon, the relative continued.
Another relative said he's not sure DuBois could have harmed the children, saying he was a good father and worked hard for his kids.
Authorities have declined repeated requests for more information.
