A former Belcourt, ND, resident has been sentenced after stealing and distributing hydrocodone while her husband worked at a hospital in Belcourt.
Candace Keplin, also known as Candace McCauly, 26, was sentenced to three years probation Wednesday.
According to U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon, Keplin assisted her husband, Timothy Davis Jr., in distributing hydrocodone stolen from the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Facility, which is operated by Indian Health Service (IHS). Davis was employed by IHS as a pharmacy technician at the time the drugs were stolen.
Davis was ordered to pay restitution of $5,763 and pay $100 to the Crime Victim's Fund. He has not been sentenced yet.
According to a news release, Keplin handled and stored the financial proceeds from the drug sales, which were then spent on personal items.
