Wacht Pleads 'Not Guilty' To Cooperstown Murder

A man charged with murdering and decapitating a Cooperstown man has pleaded not guilty.

A man charged with murdering and decapitating a Cooperstown man has pleaded not guilty.

Daniel Wacht was in Griggs County court today for murder charges.

Authorities say Wacht shot and then decapitated 54-year-old Kurt Johnson.

Authorities recently tested DNA on a gun and cartridge believed to have been used in the murder

Johnson was last seen on December 31st at the Oasis Bar in downtown Cooperstown.

According to the criminal complaint, someone saw Wacht throw Johnson into the rear cargo area of a van about 9pm.

Johnson's head was found in Wacht's Cooperstown home, but his body is still missing.

Wacht's next appearance in court is not yet scheduled.
