DL City Commission Sends Letter to Dalrymple Opposing East-end Outlet

The Devils Lake City Commission has decided to send North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple a letter stating the city's opposition to plans for an east-end outlet on Devils Lake.

The Devils Lake City Commission has decided to send North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple a letter stating the city's opposition to plans for an east-end outlet on Devils Lake.

Monday night's action is a response to three resolutions the State Water Commission approved on Friday, which included the east-end outlet.

The City Commission says the proposed outlet will not have enough capacity to take a significant amount of water off of the lake.

Mayor Dick Johnson also expressed frustration over the fact that no city officials were consulted on the resolutions.

The approved letter will re-state the Commission's desire to get more water moving off the lake by the end of the year.

They're also asking the state to treat Devils Lake like any other community dealing with floodwaters.

"We've got to keep this ball rolling. We've got the momentum, we've got unity," Johnson said.

The City Commission also decided to deny the North Dakota Water Science Center and United States Geological Survey access to install a camera on the Tolna Coulee.
