Hillsboro Native Pleads Guilty in Husband's SD Death

A New Underwood, SD, woman and Hillsboro native pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter Tuesday in the shooting death of her husband in their home last November.

RAPID CITY — A New Underwood, SD, woman and Hillsboro native pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter Tuesday in the shooting death of her husband in their home last November.

Amanda Kaur was charged with murder.

She told the judge that Ira Kaur had attempted suicide in their home and a gun went off as they struggled. The 28-year-old said she left with her two children, came back to find her husband wounded and fired a fatal shot.

Ira Kaur was a sergeant at Ellsworth Air Force Base which is near Rapid City.

He was also stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force Base from 2005 to 2007.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to cap their sentence request at 65 years in prison. The judge is not bound by the recommendation at the Aug. 23 sentencing.
