Altru Clinic-Lake Region ExpansionThe Altru Clinic in Devils Lake is getting more room and a facelift.
Construction on the expansion and renovation is scheduled to begin this month and they hope to have it finished by the end of next summer. The expansion is going to allow Altru to increase the number services they provide to the Lake Region.
"It's going to allow us to expand laboratories, expand pharmacy, oncology and allow more clinic outreach services," said Dave Molmen, Altru Health System CEO.
Officials also stated that Altru's partnership with Mayo will benefit the Lake Region community as well.
"We will be taking some of the things that will happen in Grand Forks and bring those to Devils Lake," said Dr. Casey Ryan, Altru Health System President.
The clinic is hoping that with the updated services people will not have to go out of town for medical care as much, especially the baby boomer generation.
"Altru is making a 10 million dollar investment in our city's future so that we may provide more and improved services to North Dakota's aging population," local Altru physician Dr. Paul Fetterly said.
Not only do the updates to the clinic help people already living in the Lake Region but local officials hope that it will attract people to move into the area.
"Investor, developers, people looking to move. What do they ask? Probably they ask first, what type of medical facilities do you have?" said Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson.
