BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The state Department of Emergency Services says North Dakota homeowners or renters who have sustained private property damage from flooding should report it so the state can measure the scope of flooding.

Damages can be reported online or to a hotline.

Officials say homeowners should not wait to make repairs. They are advised to document the damages with photos or video and keep receipts and other proof of payment made for repairs or to protect property.

Officials say the documentation will make it easier to get reimbursed if federal assistance becomes available for damage to private property.
