DULUTH - Authorities have released more information on a Sunday incident where a woman was taken into custody after reportedly holding her 3-year-old child over the edge of the Blatnik Bridge.
According to the Superior Police Department, officers responded to the bridge at 12:21 a.m. Sunday to investigate a 911 report of a woman holding a child over the edge of the bridge. Officers found a 36-year-old Duluth woman in her car sitting in a Superior-bound lane of the bridge. The child was in the car’s backseat.
The bridge was closed while officers talked with the woman and got her, her child and car off the bridge without incident. The woman was taken to St. Luke’s hospital for a mental-health evaluation. The child, who was unharmed, was released to a grandparent.
The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office will review the incident. Referrals are being made to the Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services and the St. Louis County Department of Human Services.
