The National Weather Service says a strong low pressure system is moving into eastern North Dakota and west central Minnesota tonight.
The potent system will be bringing showers and thunderstorms in the Red River Valley tonight and overnight into Wednesday.
NWS says some storms will bring heavy rainfall and possible flooding of poorly-drained and urban areas through the evening.
The threat for showers and storms will linger into Wednesday, before drier air moves into the region by Thursday.
Friday and the weekend bring another chance for thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 58. South southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 71. Southwest wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. West northwest wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Light and variable wind.
